Presentation Synopsis:
BC parents, students, teachers, trustees, association and facility managers, have been under the influence of misinformation in regards to mitigating aerosol infection risks in educational facilities.
ASHRAE Ventilation Standards by code are the basis for air quality systems for schools in North America. Requirements have varied with the time of design and construction. The building code requisite ventilation rates were not intended to mitigate pathogens specifically.
Recognizing the need to guide design professionals and facility managers, ASHRAE developed a series of communications to bring awareness to Core recommendations, including the mitigation of aerosol infection risk.
On Tuesday, April 12th, 2022, at noon PDST, the chair of the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force, Dr. William P. Bahnfleth, Ph.D., PE, FASHRAE, FASME, FISIAQ will present much needed guidance for BC design professionals, and the facility management community.
This program will address the key elements of ASHRAE’s COVID-19 risk mitigation guidance as summarized in its Core Recommendations. The Core Recommendations outline an approach to risk mitigation using engineering controls that are effective, flexible, and sustainable. This presentation provides an overview of the Core Recommendations, including the rationale for each recommendation, and summarizes ASHRAE’s Building Readiness guidance, which was developed to support their implementation.
