We welcome you to ASHRAE BC’s April-2022 meeting with ASHRAE President, Mr. Mick Schwedler. It is our first in-person meeting since Sept-2020. We hope many of you can make it out as we are excited to see everyone!
ASHRAE BC is proud to welcome ASHRAE President Mick Schwedler to our meeting on 19-April-2022.
For his time and devotion to ASHRAE and the HVAC&R industry, Schwedler is a recipient of the Fellow Award, Exceptional Service Award, Standards Achievement Award, and the Distinguished Service Award. In addition to his time served on the Board of Directors, Schwedler served as chair of the ASHRAE Technology Council, chair of ASHRAE Standing Standard Project Committee 90.1-2010, chair of the Advanced Energy Design Guide Steering Committee, and as an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer.
In addition to his many contributions to ASHRAE, Schwedler is an Applications Engineer at Trane, and aids customers in system optimization (in which he holds patents) and chilled water system design. He has given technical seminars throughout North America, as well as in the Far East and South America.
Presentation abstract: “Decarbonization” has become a hot topic. But what is it, how do we estimate emissions reduction and how can HVAC systems be designed to reduce emissions? This presentation focuses on reducing emissions due to design choices, building operation and from the electric grid providing building power. Subjects include decarbonization definition, goals, example calculations of emissions, key HVAC components and effects, and a few system solutions. The presentation does not cover subjects such as embodied carbon or carbon emitted during construction. Consult materials available from the ASHRAE Task Force for Building Decarbonization for much more information.
