ASHRAE BC is proud to welcome ASHRAE Society President, Tim Wentz, to our February Meeting. Tim will be outlining his presidential message “Adapt Today to Shape Tomorrow”. President Wentz relates this goal to his personal history of moving from a slide rule in his early college days to a hand calculator and now a computer or smartphone as an example of the challenges and opportunities inherent in adapting to new technology. ”All of us have had to come face-to-face with the challenges of adaptation. It’s in the power of adapting that organizations, lives and communities are transformed. Our ability to shape tomorrow is born out of our willingness to adapt today and shape a more sustainable world.”

Tim Wentz has an MBA and Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Nebraska. Upon graduation, Wentz went to work for the family’s contracting firm. He spent 19 years in the industry, working on a wide range of mechanical projects throughout the Midwest. On his first day at work he asked his father what he wanted him to do. He told him get into your car and drive 60 miles to Omaha and join the ASHRAE Nebraska Chapter. He was surprised and then asked What is ASHRAE? Why should I join? Our Society often struggles with this question. His father told him “When you go to an ASHRAE meeting you will find the building owners we serve, the engineers we work for, the suppliers we buy from, and our competitors, all in the same room. You need to be in that room.”

Since entering academia, Mr. Wentz has received numerous awards and honors for his teaching and service to the HVAC industry. He has received the ASHRAE Exceptional and Distinguished Service awards as well as the E.K. Campbell Award of Merit. The Mechanical Contractors Association of America has named Tim Wentz as their national “Educator of the Year” on three occasions.
