ASHRAE BC is proud to welcome Barry Stephens of Ventacity Systems Inc. to our February meeting. Barry will review Passive House Institute & Passive House Certified components and the differences between PHI testing protocol, and AHRI/HVI testing. He will review noise requirements for Passive House Standard and how HRV efficiencies are calculated. Design considerations (minimizing thermal breaks, insulation, location, central versus individual systems) will be explored, along with a discussion of balanced ventilation requirements for the entire building as well as the impact on heat recovery efficiency when unbalanced flows happen.

Barry Stephens has presented at conferences across North America since 2010. He spent 15 years at Zehnder America Inc where he spearheaded the introduction of high efficiency HRV systems to North America. He has been involved with the design, installation and commissioning of these systems in projects across North America, including Solar Decathlon teams, NZE homes, Passive House Projects and other high performance buildings. His support engineers hold CPHC and LEED AP certifications. He is also an ASHRAE member.
